Guiding Cash Grain Marketing Decisions for Nearly 50 Years

About Us

Why was Consus Ag Consulting Started?

Angie started Consus Ag Consulting because she found there was a unique need in the grain marketing industry to provide growers with cash advice.

Growers all over the U.S. face the same challenge: deciphering what news matters to the commodity markets. As Karl joined the team, the couple found there was a clear information gap between what was going on in the markets and what growers were receiving from other sources.

With today’s highly volatile markets, there is so much “noise” in the space. The Setzers strive to cut through that noise and communicate with growers what they are watching each day clearly and concisely.

Consus Ag Consulting

The Name Behind the Brand

The name “Consus” comes from ancient Roman mythology. Consus was a Roman deity that was the protector of the grains. With Angie’s background in grain storage, handling, and management, she wanted to find a unique way to portray that importance to her customers.

If you follow Angie on X, you may also note that her handle is “Goddess of Grain,” chosen for the unique and important role Angie believes Consus plays in supporting farmers.

Don’t just take our word for it.

Behind Consus Ag Consulting

Angie Setzer

Angie has nearly 2 decades of experience in cash grain marketing. After starting her career as a cash broker, she quickly fell in love with the physical side of the business. Learning the ins and outs of the direct ship market, she moved on to managing physical space, building a state-of-the-art grain program for over a decade.

While working in both the commercial space and with farmers, she found her true passion was working individually with growers and launched Consus Ag Consulting in 2021. Working in both the commercial and farmer sides of the cash grain business, Angie marries those two together to help support farmers with their marketing decisions about when to move the physical crop.

Angie is a respected ag influencer, commodity market analyst, and guest writer in a variety of different ag media outlets including Market to Market, US Farm Report, DTN, Barchart, Bloomberg, and many others.

Karl Setzer

Karl’s career in the commodity industry spans over 30 years, but he has been in agriculture since day one. Karl grew up on a dairy and beef cattle farm in Wisconsin, then entered the commercial grain elevator business.

Karl spent over 20 years at MaxYield Cooperative in North Central Iowa, focusing primarily on risk management, for both commercial elevators and farmers. It was during this time Karl started to work heavily in the Over the Counter (OTC) risk management tools.

Not only has Karl worked with grain and soybean farmers on risk management, he possesses an extensive knowledge of the livestock industry as well. Karl’s years of experience in risk management and brokerage research ultimately led him to join Angie at Consus Ag Consulting in the fall of 2023. Karl’s stellar commodity market background and knowledge have also made him a regularly sought-after contributor to ag news services, including Reuters, Dow Jones, the Wall Street Journal, and several other regional, national, and global publications.
